Car Wrecks or Auto Accidents

Car-Wreck Tip

After a automobile or truck collision occurs, on-the-scene witnesses and photographs are can be important. If you are hurt, you may be in no condition to check around and see if any other people saw the collision. However, if person that hit you iis saying he didn't do anything wrong, or, worse, he's blaming you for the collision, then testimony from others who saw the collision may be critical. Witnesses will sometimes stop to render aid, or to tell you what they saw happen. Be sure to record their names, addresses, and phone numbers. Usually, however, others on the road are in a hurry and will not stop. Use your cell phone to take photos of license plates on cars that are passing by the collision scene. If a police officer or lawyer has a license plate number, he can usually obtain the owner/witness's contact information. Chance is that those passing drivers saw all or part of the events leading up to the collision. You can also use your cell phone to take photographs of the incident scene, of the vehicles involved, of the other driver or his passengers, and of you or your bodily injuries. You can't have too many photographs. Some might be useless, but others might carry the day in front of a jury. Take a bunch of pictures.

In addition, since many cell or smart phones these days have a video-recording device, also do not hesitate to discretely videotape the other driver, especially if he's openly admitting responsibility, or if you believe he's under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If he's admitting responsibility, and if you have paper and a pen, write down what he says as he's saying it. Your writing may be admissible in evidence, and very impactful in front of jury.
