Nursing home abuse/neglect

Regrettably, as our population ages there becomes an increasing risk that you will have a loved one that is affected by nursing home injuries or elder abuse. Currently there are 36 million people over the age of 65 in our country and with the baby boomers that number is expected to swell to around 87 million by the year 2050. Naturally a good portion of these older adults will need some kind of nursing home or assisted living care.

Thankfully there are a good number of facilities that provide good care and a safe environment for our loved ones. Unfortunately, there are also a number of nursing homes and assisted living facilities (ALF's) that that do not provide such a safe haven. Senior citizens all too often can become vulnerable to numerous forms of harm due to poor medical treatment or the neglect and abuse of undertrained or uncaring staff. These problems can be made worse by the fact that many elders have a difficult time articulating their needs to family and friends. It is estimated that almost one million senior citizens are victimized in nursing homes or ALFs every year.
