You may recall that I wrote an earlier blog about DePuy hip implants in particular. Well, as noted by this NY times article the federal government has received a surge in complaints about failed hip replacements.

Since January the FDA has received more than 5,000 reports about widely used devices known as metal-on-metal hips.

Now, typically the life of a replacement hip is about 15 years. However, many of these filings are from patients who have had (or will have) to have their hip removed because the device failed after just a few years of use.

At numbers approaching 250,000, hip replacements are one of the most common medical procedures in the United States. Further, it is estimated that approximately one third of all hip replacements each year are done with the metal on metal type of implants. Complications can range from pain to severe reactions to metal particles that separate from the device as they wear inside the body.

Due to these complaints many surgeons have simply stopped using metal on metal implants, preferring to use a combination of metal and plastic components. Unfortunately, it is a little too late for those patients who have already received a metal on metal implant.

If you or a loved one has or are currently experiencing severe pain or any kind of adverse reactions after having a hip implant why don't you contact our firm and tell us about it. We have operators standing by at 1-800-738-4046 to hear your story. If an initial consultation is needed I will personally come to you to you anywhere in the greater Dallas Metroplex area to hear your story.
